Abstract
Purpose : To evaluated diabetes(DM), osteoporosis and metabolic syndrome(MS) prevalence, incidence, risk factors, reference values and to utilize it for development of disease diagnostic model.

Methods : The study method for the 7th year examination was as similar as the previous methods. Specifically, our goal was standardization of research staff and methods. Follow-up examination of 2,271 eligible subjects and new examination of 700 subjects in follow up subject¡¯s family. Evaluation of changing patterns and magnitude of he target diseases. Analyses of the incidence, survival rates, and the risk factors of the target diseases. Analysis and development of reference values for early diagnosis of he target diseases. Collection of blood samples for the SNP analyses, as well as morbidity and mortality information of the participants. All of the subjects underwent a 2 hour 75gm Oral Glucose Tolerance Test(OGTT). WHO criteria were used to interpret the OGTT results.

Results : Incidence of DM was about 3.4%. We identified the waist circumference, MS status, and lean mass as the best predicting variables for DM. Moreover, we utilized age, hypertension status, family history of DM, smoking status, gender, and waist circumference to develop tentative disease assessment model. Incidence rate of tibial osteoporosis was 2.3%, At radius, the rate was 2.3%. The risk factors for osteoporosis was age, gender, place of residence and BMI. The incidence of MS was 16.5%. The place of residence, gender and age were independent predictors for MS.

Conclusions : This prospective study identified a waist circumference as a key risk factors of DM. Based on the study results, we revealed the possibility of developing disease assessment model. We have found a possible of revealed genes through family clustering genetic epidemiology study. We identified that incidence of DM and osteoporosis was at high as Western rates. Therefore, we further suggest national health policy implementation of DM prevention program.
